ARC Review: Jenny Q: Unravelled by Pauline Mc Lynn

Plot: I'm Jenny Q. How do you do? I am officially a middle child since the baby bro arrived. But it's OK because he is the best little bundle ever. Even my big brother's group Ten Guitars are well into the lil dude. That includes the gorgeous Stevie Lee Bolton with his looks that just mesmerise me! And now my bro's asked me to handle their fan mail - I'll be secretary to the hottest boyband in Dublin! Will Stevie Lee finally notice me? But in between babies, boys and crazy band fans, will I have enough time to help Dad or look after exhausted Mum before everything becomes unravelled!

My Review:

This is the second book in the Jenny Q series, if you have not read my review for the first book "Jenny Q: Stitched Up" Click here !!

I was sent this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review from Puffin Publishers.  I really enjoyed the first book in the series and was eager to start this. I brought this to the beach one day as the weather was good and this seemed like a really good book to bring to the beach.
I really enjoyed the book overall. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book in the series.

The characters of this book are so well written. Uggs, Dixie and Jenny are such good friends and I love reading about their antics together. In this book the reader sees they're somewhat more mature than the previous book. They can depend on each other in times of crisis, which is a sign of true friendship. Their friendship is adorable and really heart-warming to read about.

I really enjoyed learning a little more about Jenny's family life. Her life with the new baby and her brothers band and all the chaos of the Quinn household really contributed to the funny and satisfying read. The Ten Guitars sound like a really interesting band. I also liked Jenny's infactuation with Stevie Lee Bolton. I know nothing will probably happen between them as he is her brothers friend and a lot older than her, but an unrealistic crush always makes for the better and funnier read. I think he seems like he could be a friend towards her.

The plot of this book was sort of based around the new items in the house- the band and the baby, with little relation to Dixie's problems. While the book is aimed at children, it highlights really important issues in a light way. Such as Post Natal Depression, Eating Disorders, meeting strangers online, etc,. I think it is a really good idea to incorporate these themes into children's literature in a light way as to not let them get too bogged down on it but still be informative.

Overall this book was really enjoyable. Although it lagged a little for me in places, I would recommend it to those aged 11+ who are looking for a funny book to read in the summer holidays.
