Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books Dealing With Tough Subjects

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book related meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This weeks theme is Top Ten Books Dealing With Tough Subjects (abuse, suicide, grief etc or something personal hard for you)

Here is the books I've chosen:

1) Go Ask Alice by Beatrice Sparks.

This book deals with a lot of tough subjects. It deals with underage sex, alcohol, drug addiction, self harm, homelessness, anxiety and suicide. This novel packs such a powerful punch for its small size of only 218 pages.

2) Crank by Ellen Hopkins.

This book is told in verse which makes the impact of the topic feel genuine. The novel deals with a young girls addiction to Meth or "Crank". I've not read this book personally but I've heard it deals with the topic of drug addiction very well.

3) Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.

This book deals with rape . It also highlights the sick culture that is "rape culture". Victims of rape are discourage by society to speak out about their rape for fear of being "judged" and in a lot of cases are told that they "asked for it". This book deals with the topic in an honest light. It's a must read.

4) Cut by Patricia Mc Cormack.

This book deals with self harm. Self harm is a really serious problem in todays society and this novel really shows the reader the honest truth of what it is like to do this. The book also deals with other mental health related issues such as Anorexia and suicide.

5) The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.

This is a really popular book, and for good reason. This book deals with isolation, deppression, mental health, drug abuse and suicide. This is such an impacting book. It opened my eyes to these issues and I love this novel.

6) Hate List by Jennifer Brown.

This book deals with a school shooting. I own this book and hope to read it this summer. From the reviews I've read the book deals with the topic of a school shooting and mental illness very well.

7) Hold Still by Nina La Cour.

This book deals with the topic of depression and suicide. It also deals with those who are left behind as a girls friend commits suicide and she is left behind to wonder what made her do it. This book seems like it would be a really honest look at the other side of Suicide, the others that are affected by it.

8) Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green & David Levithan.

This novel deals with sexuality and acceptance. This is a topic I feel should be addressed more as it is a big issue in todays culture. Although we are a lot more accepting as a whole, there are still pockets of the planet where people should open their hearts and stop the ignorance. It is a topic I feel strongly about and I would really like to read this book to see how John Green and David Levithan deal with this.

9) By The Time You Read This, I'll Be Dead by Julie Anne Peters .

This is another book dealing with teenage depression and suicide. I think this book should be included as although I've included other books on the list similar to this book, It is a topic that needs to be adressed more and more in todays world. Suicide affects everyone.

10) The Fault In Our Stars by John Green.

This book deals with a teenage girl who has terminal cancer. It deals with the cancer side of the book in a really honest way. It also deals with the fact that you should not give up on yourself. This is important because no matter what has happened to you, please never give up on yourself. I feel the novel is such an important one. Please read it if you have not .
