My Review:

This is the second instalment in the Chocolate Box Girls series by Cathy Cassidy.
I am finally reading this series- yay. My younger sister has been recommending the series to me for months and I really love Cathy Cassidy's other novel. I finally picked up this book as I was looking for a cute romance novel . I flew through this book. It was really gripping and entertaining.
An aspect I really enjoy, from what I've read so far, in the series is the way the story is told from a different characters point of view in each novel. In this novel we get to delve into the mindset of Sky Tanberry. Skye is an intelligent, sometimes shy, history buff and marshmallow and vintage clothing lover. She is very different from your typical teenager. She is very much an individual. She can be very opinionated at times. She has such an amazing dress sense. When reading, I was making mental notes to take a closer look around my local charity shops in search of some Skye-inspired pieces. I mean who doesn't want a Cloche hat or a vintage collared lace dress? I love how unique Skye was. She really stands out from the other girls because she is unafraid to express herself through her fashion. I think she may be my favourite chocolate box girl so far!
The plot of this novel was really interesting. I was really surprised, in a really good way, that the plot began to develop from the first page. When I read that ghosts and haunting was going to be the focus of the book, I was a little worried that this would turn down the "totally-predictable-teen-paranormal-romance" lane. I was so relieved when it didn't.I loved the story of Clara Travers and the mystery it brought to the novel. The supernatural aspect of the novel is one of the main focuses but I was glad it was well written and not exaggerated. I also liked seeing the development of side characters over the course of the plot, for example Millie, Tia and Alfie.
Alfie ! I loved Alfie. He was so adorable and the relationship he had with Skye was so heartwarming. I was really interested in seeing her relationship with Alfie grow as she helped him with Summer. One of my favourite parts with their characters is when they meet up to go sledging in the snow. I love that scene as it really shows what great friends they are.
Cathy Cassidy is an amazing author. She has been one of my favourite authors since I was eleven. She creates realistic and relate able characters that can really connect with readers and draw them into the story. I feel that another aspect of her great writing is that a girl of 9 / 10 up to 17 can still read her novels and enjoy them immensely. I also lived the way the "Finch" idea was resolved. I am so looking forward to Summer's Dream!

My Rating:

Four Star Novel
