Review: Dash & Lily's Book Of Dares by Rachel Cohn & David Leviathan

PLOT- “I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”

So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?
Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

My Review-
I really liked this book and I've had it on my TBR list for a long long time! Thanks to my friend for letting me borrow it.

So I'm just going to start off by letting you know the things I did not like in the book. For me, I had slight problems with the characters. Lily's pervy Santa-Clause was a little much. I didn't find that funny, I just found it creepy and disturbing. I also felt that Lily's character was so different in the notebook than in real life. She was cool in the notebook and then outside of it she was very timid and quiet. Where as Dash was the exact same in the notebook as he was outside of it. I also had a problem with Dash's character, a small problem, I felt he was not like a 16 year old boy at all. I know he was a "word-nerd" but I still found his behaviour not at all like a teenage boy. Okay, problems over, back to my review!
Okay so contrary to what I have said above, there were some things I did like about the characters of the book. I did feel sympathy for Dash and Lily, both being left behind at Christmas. Lily's character had a lot of sad backstory- shrilly- and I did enjoy learning more about her character. Dash's character was wonderfully bookish. I loved their romance together and how their relationship developed over the course of the novel. I also really enjoyed the side characters, like Boomer. Boomer was like a puppy that I just wanted to hug. He was so cute and such a good friend to Dash!
The plot was fast paced. I really liked the alternating Pov's and I felt that they really added to the novel. The idea of having a notebook conversation with someone was really unique. I also loved the Christmas in New York setting. The plot was really good with lots of twists and turns that I did not see coming. I liked the flow and pace of the plot. I read the book in two days, so let that be an indication of me liking the book. Although the plot was really good, I could see more people finding this more of a character driven novel.
The writing style was really good. I read the page at the end of the novel explaining that Rachel Cohn wrote lily's parts and David Leviathan wrote Dash's parts. I thought that was really interesting and I've always wondered how two people write a book together. The changing Pov's really kept the book flowing and also kept the characters interesting. The writing was really good and I want to pick up more books by Rachel Cohn and David Leviathan.
This book was really enjoyable and I think you should definitely read it at Christmas.
