The Emerald Atlas by John Stephens

The Emerald Atlas by John Stephens

TIME TO READ: 5 Days
PAGES: 417 pages

SYNOPSIS:
Kate, Michael, and Emma have been in one orphanage after another for the last ten years, passed along like lost baggage.
Yet these unwanted children are more remarkable than they could possibly imagine. Ripped from their parents as babies, they are being protected from a horrible evil of devastating power, an evil they know nothing about.
Until now. Before long, Kate, Michael, and Emma are on a journey to dangerous and secret corners of the world...a journey of allies and enemies, of magic and mayhem. And--if an ancient prophesy is correct--what they do can change history, and it is up to them to set things right.

MY REVIEW:
CHARACTERS: 5 / 5
Kate is fourteen and is the eldest of three children, already I can relate to her! She feels like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders as she was given only one task by her mother- to look after Michael and Emma. She is very protective of them. She has to be the strong one and is holding all her sadness and resentment inside. Out of the three, I related to Kate the most. She was a great character!
Michael was a really great character also! He loved books- which I can obviously relate to! I felt sorry for him as he was constantly teased by Emma and was bullied in every orphanage they were in. . He was a shy and introverted character, but he was very brave in the end. He was a lovely little brother to his sister!
Emma. She is not afraid of a fight . She stands up for what she believes in and often ends up in a scrap because of it. She s more of a do now and think later character. Their is allot of fighting and arguing between her and Michael , which is typical of siblings. And often it is Kate breaking up their fights (Sigh - Kate I can relate to that!) Loved the characters in this book.
Other characters that were totally awesome - Gabriel, Robbie and Dr Pym. <3

PLOT: 5 / 5
The plot of this book maybe one of the best plots ever! It was amazing. From the prologue, when we see the night they were taken from their parents it really sets the mood for the book and I knew that this book was going to be awesome! The Plot was super intriguing and it kept you guessing the whole way through. I loved the character development in relation to the plot. The emerald atlas and it's abilities and the time travel and the action scenes and everything! Just wow, what an amazing book. Fast paced, action packed and totally gripping!

WRITING STYLE: 5 / 5
I cannot believe this is John Stephens first book ! His writing was infallible. His dialogue was realistic and flowed easily. His world and character building was just phenomenal! His descriptive writing skills was so vivid and he was excellent at describing the scenery and all the places the children encounter. His pacing was really good, very gripping. His writing was just awesome!
Can't wait for the  next book !

OVERALL RATING: 15 / 15
